Danny MacAskill up for Laureus award
Danny MacAskill is short-listed for the Action Sportsperson of the Year Category of the Laureus World Sports Awards 2010. The young Scotsman is now named together with famous athletes like Lance Armstrong, Jenson Button, Roger Federer or Valentino Rossi. The Award ceremony is held on March 10th in Abu Dhabi. The Laureus World Sports Awards, which dignify sporting achievement during the period January 1 - December 31, 2009, are recognized as the premier honors on the international sporting calendar. The winners, as voted by the Laureus World Sports Academy - the ultimate sports jury, made up of 46 of the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen of all times - will be unveiled during a televised awards ceremony staged in Abu Dhabi on March 10th. Danny is totally stoked: "It's crazy being nominated for the Laureus Awards. I mean there are many amazing other athletes that won the biggest competitions in their sport, and I was just doing what I love, riding my bike and a bit of filming. I am also looking forward to visit Abu Dhabi, a place I would have never thought to visit!" Danny was indeed nominated because of his “spectacular stunt video seen by 350,000 on You Tube in 40 hours" like the official press release says. The clip that was viewed over 15,000,000 times on youtube.com can also be seen in a high quality version on: www.watch26.tv. Let's see if the judges will vote for Danny to become the Action Sportsperson of 2010. It might be a close decision, because the following athletes from other action sports can also look back to huge success in 2009: - Three Surfers: the world champions Mick Fanning, Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) as well as Waimea Bay big wave event winner Greg Long (USA) - Skateboarder and Dew Tour winner Chris Cole (USA) - And windsurfer Antoine Albeau (FRA) that won the 2009 PWA Slalom World Championships To get more detailed information about the Laureus World Sports Awards 2010, please visit: www.laureus.com.
